Downloading movies on the computer can be fun if you got a great monitor, and it reduces clutter around the house, but most people do not store their desktops in front of the sofa in the family room like they already do their television sets. However, some gaming systems allow you access to watch movies on your TV through that gaming system and the internet.

Streaming vs Downloading

Streaming movies is where the video is stored in some server/drive away from your equipment and you use your equipment to watch the movie. It requires internet access throughout the entire movie. Downloading movies is where you keep that movie on your device, and even if you are not connected online and even if you cancel services with your provider, you can still watch that movie. In some cases with gaming systems, online access may be required to access different networks storing the movie, and if USB storage device is an option, it generally has to be compatible with the gaming system.

XBOX 360

The XBOX 360 allows you to work with Netflix, Zune, and Hulu. The XBOX 360 is a computer in of itself, as it is developed by Microsoft. It can also be added to a home network where it can access information from your other computers, such as music. With the Kinect, you can also control the features by voice including pausing and playing.

Wii

The Wii has internet capabilities as well. You can surf the web, check the weather, access the news, and shop for wii related downloads. With Nintendo 3DS, you can also stream Netflix through your Wii on the television in 2D and coming soon 3D.

PS3

On your Play Station 3, you can watch and store home videos using the Filmy app. You can also download movies and tv shows from the Play Station store. You can also watch movies on your PS3 that are saved on a USB device.

Please keep in mind that many of these gaming systems and movie companies require a monthly service fee and/or purchase.
